A magical evening looking out across the river Dee. There is often something almost religious about this time of day.

Stephen had undertaken his apprenticeship under Liverpool sculpture Arthur Dooley aged 20. 26 years on he is talking about the city he has worked and loved at the 73 Roscoe lecture held in the prestigious St George’s Hall. Originally planned in the newly refurbished Concert room the response was overwhelming and so was moved to the great hall.

The 73rd Roscoe Lecture today was undertaken by Stephen Broadbent. Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) has been running these series of lectures for over a decade and Stephen joins His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Mary McAleese, the President of Ireland, and Ken Dodd to name but a few.

William Roscoe was given the tittle of “Father of Culture” - David Alton who gave a lecture about him recalls the life and times of William Roscoe – reformer, poet, historian, lawyer, banker, MP, Unitarian - ‘a true son of Liverpool’ from whom we still have much to learn.
